Two trucks were hi-jacked on the N12 in a matter of four days last week.
On 18 January, a truck had just collected copper cables from the Mponeng mine and was exiting the mine’s property onto the N12.
A Volkswagen golf approached the truck on the N12, drove past it, but then stopped and made a u-turn.
The truck was hi-jacked and the driver forced into another vehicle. He was later found in Pretoria, and the truck’s ‘horse’ in Vereeniging.
In a similar hi-jacking on 21 January a truck, which was on its way from Orkney to Brits on the N12 had just passed the Mponeng Mine entrance when it was overtaken by a BMW.
“One of the passengers of the BMW managed to attract the driver of the truck, Mr Pieter Glimmed’s attention, and pointed to the back of the truck, as if indicating that something was wrong,” said Const Elsie Tshonte, Spokesperson for the Fochville SAPS.
Glimmed came to a halt, but was approached by three African males, of which two were armed, before he could even exit the truck. He was instructed to get into a blue Volkswagen golf parked behind the truck, and the men fled with the truck.
Although no arrests have been made, the truck was recovered in Brackenhurst.
If anyone has any information regarding these hijackings, they should call the Fochville Detectives Branch at 018 771 1120.
