Verskeie atlete van Hoërskool Carletonville het tydens die interskole atletiekbyeenkoms op 19 Februarie behoorlik koning op hulle eie tuisveld gekraai toe hoërskole in die omgewing mekaar die stryd aangesê het.

In die baanitems het Leoni Labuschagne die 3000 meter meisies o/17 in ‘n tyd van 15.04.59 voltooi terwyl Henry Buys die 400 meter seuns o/17 in 53.53 sekondes kafgedraf het.

Petrie Roberts o/14 het die 800 meter in 2.12.85 gewen. In die velditems het Handré Meyer die diskus vir seuns o/14 gewen nadat hy die werpskyf 31.91 meter ver geslinger het.

Pieter Potgieter het die diskus vir seuns o/17 met ‘n afstand van 34.17 meter gewen en Eden Basson het die gewigstoot vir seuns o/16 met 9.12 meter gewen. Jacques Dippenaar het die seuns o/17 driesprong met ‘n afstand van 13.17 meter gewen terwyl Melissa Nel die verspring meisies o/17 met 9.42 meter gewen het. Maverick van der Merwe het die seuns o/17 hoogspring met ‘n hoogte van 1.85 meter gewen en het ook by die spiesgooi as die wenner uitgetree met ‘n afstand van 56.71 meter.

Michael Cuypers from Carletonville was recently selected for the Central Gauteng Triathlon Team to take part in the South African Championships in Germiston on 21 March. He will be participating in the 18 - 19 year age group

Cuypers, who is cycling and running daily puts a lot of training and effort into this sport which has become very important to him, competed in the Half Iron man event at Vaal Pukke in Vanderbijlpark on 21 February.

"Although I’m only turning 18 in two weeks time I participated in the 20-24 year age group", he said. "I started the race with a positive attitude to do well which paid off because I came second with a time of 05:27.00".
